Presidency Denounces 2027 Campaign Billboards, Cites Electoral Law Violation

The Presidency has firmly disassociated itself from a growing wave of premature campaign billboards surfacing in parts of the country, promoting a 2027 re-election bid for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the government expressed concern over unauthorized political advertisements bearing the images of the President and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, prominently displayed in cities such as Abuja and Kano.

While acknowledging and appreciating the loyalty and enthusiasm of supporters nationwide, the Presidency emphasized that neither President Tinubu nor Vice President Shettima endorses any campaign that violates Nigeria’s electoral laws.

“The Electoral Act clearly prohibits any form of campaigning ahead of the official timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),” the statement read. “Engaging in premature political promotions compromises the integrity of the electoral process and could create unfair political advantages.”

The Presidency reaffirmed the leaders’ commitment to upholding the rule of law and maintaining the credibility of national institutions. It urged all individuals and groups involved in the funding and deployment of 2027 campaign materials—particularly through billboard placements—to halt such activities immediately.

According to the statement, President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima remain focused on their current mandate to rebuild the nation, with efforts centered on economic recovery, infrastructure renewal, human capital development, social investments, and national security.

The Presidency concluded by assuring Nigerians that any decision regarding the 2027 elections will be made public only when INEC officially signals the start of the electoral process.
