Former Queen Mercy Atang has stirred global attention after Guinness World Records reacted to her viral bread-inspired outfit worn at the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

The reality television star’s unconventional appearance at the awards ceremony has continued to dominate online conversations, with fashion enthusiasts, branding experts and social media users debating the creativity behind the outfit.

In a video posted on Instagram, Guinness World Records appeared to hint at a possible record conversation after commenting: “Well, we do have a record for the largest cake dress … hmmm.”

Responding to the remark, Queen wrote, “Hello @guinnessworldrecords, I see you in the comment section.”

According to Guinness World Records, the current record for the world’s largest wearable cake dress weighs 131.15kg (289lb 13oz). The feat was achieved by Natasha Coline Kim Fah Lee Fokas of SweetyCakes GmbH in Bern, Switzerland.

Queen’s AMVCA outfit, designed to resemble loaves of bread and paired with a matching prop, first drew widespread reactions after she appeared on the red carpet earlier this week.

Explaining the inspiration behind the concept, the former BBNaija housemate said the look reflected her journey as a businesswoman in the bakery industry.

“AMVCA 2026 ready. I come as an entrepreneur who runs a bread EMPIRE,” she wrote on social media while unveiling the outfit.

The reality star also used the moment to advocate for the introduction of a dedicated entrepreneurs-focused event within the AMVCA programme.

In an open letter addressed to MultiChoice Group and Africa Magic, she proposed an “AMVCA Nigerian Entrepreneurs Night” aimed at showcasing brands, innovation and business creativity.

“Imagine AMVCA Nigerian Entrepreneurs Night. Massive, classy, and inspiring,” she wrote.

The outfit has since attracted international attention, with foreign fashion commentators and online media platforms reportedly discussing the concept.

While some Nigerians criticised the costume as excessive and attention-seeking, others, including public relations and branding experts, described it as a strategic marketing move that successfully generated publicity for her bakery business.

Videos circulating online from the red carpet showed Queen adjusting the elaborate costume while posing for photographs and interacting with guests at the event.
