The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has announced the immediate expulsion of its former President, Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, over a range of serious constitutional and ethical violations.
According to a statement issued by the acting Secretary General of the Council, Comrade Rikki Nwajiofor the expulsion follows an investigation by a committee constituted to examine several allegations against the former president.
Offences cited include violations of the NYCN Constitution (2018 as amended), alleged issuance of a ₦200 million dud cheque, unauthorized alteration of the Council’s constitutional provisions, and forgery of official documents.
The NYCN added that the decision was further supported by a formal expulsion letter from its Rivers State chapter, invoking Article 9.1 of the organization’s constitution.
Citing Article 21.3, Section A, Subsections i & iv of the Council’s legal framework, the statement emphasized that Amb. Sukubo is henceforth barred from parading himself as President or former President of the NYCN in any capacity.
In a related development, the NYCN also announced the suspension of Deputy President Amb. Innocent Nduanya and Secretary General Abubakar Suleiman Esq. for alleged gross incompetence and failure to uphold their constitutional duties.
The Council said both officials aided and abetted several of the constitutional breaches committed under Amb. Sukubo’s tenure.
They are both prohibited from representing themselves as NYCN executives during their suspension, pending further review. Any violation of the suspension terms could lead to their definite expulsion from the youth body.
The NYCN reaffirmed its commitment to restoring accountability, transparency, and integrity to its leadership, with a renewed focus on giving Nigerian youth a stronger voice in national development.
