A total of 720 men, alongside 992 spouses and more than 2,000 children formerly associated with Boko Haram insurgents and other armed conflict groups, have been successfully reintegrated into society under a rehabilitation programme in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The beneficiaries, classified as Batch 9 low-risk and minor clients, completed a deradicalization and rehabilitation process designed to promote peacebuilding, social inclusion, and long-term stability in Nigeria’s North-East region.
The reintegration exercise forms part of ongoing efforts by authorities and stakeholders to address the impact of insurgency by providing former associates of armed groups with opportunities to rebuild their lives within their communities.
Officials involved in the programme emphasized that the initiative focuses on rehabilitation, psychological support, vocational training, and community acceptance to help beneficiaries transition back into civilian life. They noted that the programme is a key component of broader strategies aimed at reducing violence, preventing radicalization, and fostering sustainable peace in areas affected by years of conflict.
Community leaders and development partners have also been encouraged to support the reintegrated individuals and their families to ensure successful reintegration and strengthen social cohesion.
The latest batch highlights continuing efforts to restore normalcy in the North-East, where insurgency has displaced millions and disrupted livelihoods for more than a decade.
