State Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have publicly dissociated themselves from a legal action seeking to halt the party’s forthcoming National Convention scheduled for November in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Addressing the media on behalf of the PDP Chairmen Forum, the forum’s Chairman and Edo State PDP Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, condemned the actions of Austine Nwachukwu (Imo State) and Amah Abraham Nnana (Abia State), who were linked to the controversial suit.
“We distance ourselves completely from the suit and the plan to use it to stop the PDP from holding its National Convention. This is not right,” Aziegbemi said at the press briefing in Abuja.
Two PDP Chairmen Suspended Over Anti-Party Activities
Aziegbemi announced the immediate suspension of both Nwachukwu and Nnana from the forum, stating their actions do not reflect the collective will of the party’s state leadership.
He further called on the National Working Committee (NWC), led by Acting Chairman Umar Damagum, to investigate and discipline any member, whether directly or indirectly, connected to the lawsuit.
“We are solidly behind the Damagum-led NWC, and we will give our full support to ensure a hitch-free convention,” Aziegbemi reaffirmed.
Support for Party Unity Amid Internal Tensions
The forum emphasized its commitment to the unity and progress of the PDP, warning that any attempt to undermine the convention is tantamount to sabotaging the party’s democratic processes.
“The evil plot of the APC to turn Nigeria into a one-party state will never succeed,” Aziegbemi added, in a veiled accusation directed at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He urged all organs of the party to take a firm stance and draw inspiration from the chairmen’s decision, saying the time had come to make choices that protect the PDP’s future.
