President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Kenya following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, describing him as a towering figure in African politics and a true champion of democracy and justice.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised Odinga’s lifelong dedication to national unity, democratic reform, and inclusive governance.

“His legacy will endure in the institutions he helped to shape and the democratic ideals he championed. We mourn with Kenya in this moment of national grief and stand in solidarity with you, President William Ruto, as you lead your nation through this painful chapter,” Tinubu said.

A Legacy of Pan-Africanism and Reform

Odinga, who served as Kenya’s Prime Minister between 2008 and 2013, passed away in India during a health-related visit. His political journey spanned decades, marked by five presidential bids and a legacy of electoral reform advocacy.

President Tinubu emphasized that Odinga embodied the “true spirit of Pan-Africanism,” dedicating his life to promoting freedom, regional cooperation, and good governance across Africa.

“May the memory of Raila Odinga continue to guide Kenya towards peace, unity, and progress,” the president added.

Nigeria Stands with Kenya in Mourning

Reaffirming Nigeria’s solidarity with Kenya, President Tinubu conveyed his sympathy to President William Ruto and all Kenyans during what he described as a deeply painful period of national mourning.

“We mourn with Kenya in this moment of national grief and stand in solidarity with you… as you lead your nation through this painful chapter,” Tinubu said.
