Kano Emirate Tussle: Court Ruling Must Be Respected, Danagundi Warns Stakeholders

Alhaji Aminu Babba Danagundi, a key stakeholder in the ongoing Kano emirate dispute, has called for strict adherence to the recent Court of Appeal ruling, which ordered all parties to maintain the status quo pending the Supreme Court’s final verdict.

Speaking to journalists at the Nasarawa mini Palace in Kano, Danagundi stressed that the ruling must be respected by all, including security agencies tasked with maintaining order in the state.

He highlighted the involvement of critical security institutions such as the Inspector General of Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the military in ensuring compliance.

Danagundi urged Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf to respect the court’s directive while expressing his commitment to maintaining cordial relations.

He reiterated that the Court of Appeal’s decision explicitly called for a “status quo ante,” meaning that the situation must revert to what it was before the legal battle began.

Furthermore, he stated that individuals recently appointed under the now-repealed Kano Emirate Council Law should vacate their positions in line with the ruling.

“The Court of Appeal issued an injunction restraining the Kano State House of Assembly and government agencies from enforcing the lower court’s judgment until the Supreme Court hears the appeal,” Danagundi explained.

He also noted that the applicant was required to submit an undertaking within 48 hours to compensate the respondents for any potential damages should the court later revoke the order.
