Six Dead, Others Injured as Truck Crashes Into Pedestrians in Onitsha

The Anambra State Police Command has taken control of the scene of a fatal road accident that occurred on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 9 PM at Upper Iweka, Onitsha.

According to a statement by the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police intervened to restore order and facilitate investigations into the tragic incident.

Eyewitness Accounts and Cause of the Crash
Eyewitnesses reported that the accident happened when a truck lost control and rammed into pedestrians, crushing two tricycles and a commercial bus filled with passengers.

The impact led to the immediate deaths of six people, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Victims Receive Medical Attention
According to the police statement, some of the injured victims are receiving treatment at a hospital, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited in a morgue. Some of the victims’ relatives have already been contacted and briefed about the incident.

Police Condolences and Safety Warning
The Anambra State Police Command extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery. The command also urged drivers to conduct proper vehicle checks before hitting the road to prevent similar tragedies.
