In a significant move to combat youth unemployment and foster economic growth, the Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Capacity Development has launched a nationwide training initiative in partnership with development organization, Stability and Sustenance.
Announcing the programme during a press briefing in Abuja, the Special Assistant to the President on Capacity Development, Sadiq Rabiu, revealed that the Federal Government plans to empower one million Nigerians across all six geopolitical zones. The initiative aims to equip young Nigerians with the practical tools and knowledge needed to transform their talents into profitable ventures and become job creators.
“This strategic partnership is not just about training—it’s about transformation,” Rabiu stated. “We want to enable Nigerians to productively channel their skills and become employers of labour.”
Melody Fidel Okwuaza, Founder of Stability and Sustenance, emphasized the broader goals of the programme. “We are here to bridge the unemployment gap and provide long-term support through ongoing mentorship and skill development for talented youth,” he said.
Okwuaza added that pilot projects are already underway in three states, engaging over 20,000 students and 400 small and medium enterprises in intensive talent and skills acquisition programmes.
The impact of the initiative is already visible. Beneficiaries Chisom Rita and John Eden shared how the programme and accompanying grants helped them scale their craft businesses. They specialize in creating decorative items—such as flower vases and rugs—using wool and recycled waste materials, showcasing both creativity and environmental consciousness.
With this bold step, the Federal Government and its partners hope to unlock the economic potential of Nigeria’s vast youth population—transforming raw talent into sustainable enterprise.
