The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced plans to begin nationwide distribution of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and diesel starting August 15, 2025, in a move set to reshape Nigeria’s downstream oil sector.

The fuel distribution initiative will supply major stakeholders across various industries, including petrol marketers, fuel station operators, manufacturers, telecom companies, and aviation firms, among others.

To support this rollout, the refinery has acquired a fleet of 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered tankers, aiming to improve logistics and reduce emissions. Additionally, over 100 CNG tankers will serve a growing network of daughter booster stations, enabling more efficient fuel delivery across Nigeria.

Logistics Incentives and Credit Scheme for Buyers
As part of its distribution strategy, logistics will be provided free of charge to all customers purchasing fuel directly from the refinery. In an effort to stimulate bulk purchasing, the company is also offering a credit facility: buyers of at least 500,000 litres will be eligible for an additional 500,000 litres on two-week credit, backed by a bank guarantee.

The scheme is open to registered filling station operators and businesses in priority sectors such as manufacturing and telecommunications. All participants must undergo Know Your Customer (KYC) verification. Registration opens on June 16 and will run until August 15, 2025.

Strategic Plan to Bridge Fuel Supply Gaps
In a statement released Sunday, Dangote Refinery described the initiative as a “strategic programme” aligned with government-backed reforms, including the Naira-for-Crude exchange and wider efforts to modernize the petroleum sector.

“This marks a significant step toward improving energy accessibility, reducing logistics costs, and promoting sustainability in Nigeria’s energy landscape,” the company said.
The plan is expected to revive dormant fuel stations, improve fuel access in rural and underserved areas, and boost investor confidence in Nigeria’s refining sector.

Boosting Economic Growth and Energy Access
Dangote Refinery stated that the programme would contribute to job creation, stimulate small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and enhance government revenue. The company reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring equitable fuel access across all regions of Nigeria.

“We are committed to ensuring no community is left behind. Our goal is to deliver affordable, sustainable energy to all Nigerians—urban and rural alike.”
This distribution rollout represents a milestone in the refinery’s mission to revolutionise the Nigerian energy sector, which has long struggled with inconsistent fuel supply and high distribution costs.
