The Adamawa State Police Command says it has arrested a suspect in connection with the kidnapping of three children in Yola North Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the arrest followed a complaint filed by a resident, Samaila Musa, whose three sons were allegedly abducted and taken to an unknown location.
According to the police, the father reported the incident to the State Intelligence Department after the victims were kidnapped and their captors later contacted the family to demand a ransom.
Mr Nguroje identified the victims as Adamu Samaila Sultan, 24, Bilal Abdurrahman, 8, and Ya’u Sani Baba Iyali, 10.
“The complainant further reported that the kidnappers later established contact with the family and demanded ransom as a condition for the release of the victims,” the police spokesperson said in a statement.
Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kabir Hassan, ordered a full-scale investigation and directed operatives to deploy intelligence and technical resources to track down those responsible.
“The swift action led to the subsequent arrest of one suspect,” Mr Nguroje said.
Police said the suspect is currently in protective custody and is assisting investigators with information that could lead to the arrest of other members of the alleged kidnapping syndicate.
“The suspect is providing useful information to assist the police in apprehending other members of the kidnapping syndicate operating in the state,” the statement added.
The command said investigations are ongoing and assured that the suspect would be prosecuted upon completion of the inquiry.
