Family members, friends and fellow actors have gathered in Arochukwu, Abia State, to bid farewell to Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo ahead of his funeral.
The late actor’s body arrived in his hometown drawing hundreds of mourners who lined the streets in a solemn procession to honour his memory.
A brief stop was made at the palace of the Eze Arochukwu before the convoy proceeded to the actor’s family residence, where final funeral rites are expected to begin.
Actor IK Ogbonna, a close friend of the deceased, led mourners as they walked alongside the convoy carrying Ekubo’s remains through the community.

Residents, relatives and supporters wore customised T-shirts bearing the actor’s image and carried photographs of him during the procession.
Several Nollywood stars also travelled to Abia State to pay their last respects. Among those seen during the journey were actresses Ini Edo and Omoni Oboli, as well as fashion entrepreneur Yomi Casual, who appeared sombre as they joined other mourners.
Ekubo died last month at the age of 40 after a private battle with kidney cancer, according to family sources.
The actor, widely known for his roles in several Nollywood productions, is survived by his wife, parents and siblings.
Speaking through their presence at the funeral events, friends and colleagues described the gathering as a final tribute to a man whose contributions to Nigeria’s film industry touched many lives.
His funeral is scheduled to take place in his hometown of Arochukwu.
