The National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, has urged Nigerians to desist from participating in the planned “Free Nnamdi Kanu” protest slated for October 20, 2025.

A statement signed by the Chairman, Interim Management Committee, NYCN, Mr. Buhari Shehu, expresses concern that the planned protest will lead to a breakdown of law and order in the country.

Citing concerns raised by the United States Embassy in Abuja over the protest, and a court order obtained by the police, the NYCN cautioned youths to exercise restraint and stay out of trouble.

‎”We have been informed that the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Nigerian Police Force, has obtained an Order of the Federal High Court in Abuja, restraining the organizers of the protest,  organizing, carrying out or participating in the planned protest.“

“‎Furthermore, the US Embassy in Abuja has issued a warning to US nationals in Nigeria, advising them to avoid the planned protest. We cite this as a precautionary measure to emphasize the potential risks associated with the planned protest.“

‎Mr. Shehu therefore implored all youths to prioritize peace, stability, and national security.

According to the statement, all youths should explore alternative and lawful means of expressing their grievances and demands.

‎It further states that NYCN remains committed to promoting youth welfare and development as well as work with relevant stakeholders to address the challenges facing the youths and Nigeria.
