The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Kwara State says it has stepped up security measures ahead of the Sallah celebrations, following a high-level strategy meeting in Ilorin.
In a statement released on Monday, spokesperson Ayoola Shola said the meeting brought together senior officers, including heads of departments, area commanders and tactical unit leaders, to review the state’s security situation and readiness.
Officials assessed threats such as kidnapping, banditry and vandalism, with the command saying it is shifting towards more proactive, intelligence-led operations to prevent attacks during the festive period.
State Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed said the review was necessary to ensure the corps is fully prepared. “The essence of this meeting is to critically evaluate our current security posture and ensure we are fully prepared to respond to emerging threats,” he said.
He directed field commanders to strengthen intelligence gathering and information-sharing networks, adding that early detection remains key. “We must detect, deter and disrupt any potential security threat before it escalates,” he said.
The commandant also ordered round-the-clock surveillance at vulnerable locations and called for closer cooperation with other security agencies. The corps assured residents of increased patrols and deployments to ensure a peaceful Sallah celebration.
