The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled Thursday, August 21, for the supplementary election in Kaura-Namoda South Constituency of Zamfara State.

The announcement was made in Gusau by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mahmuda Isah, during a stakeholders’ meeting held ahead of the poll.

Dr. Isah assured political parties, security agencies, and voters that INEC has put adequate measures in place to guarantee a smooth and credible exercise. He emphasized that the commission remains committed to ensuring transparency and fairness in the process.

The supplementary poll was necessitated after the earlier by-election in Kaura-Namoda South was declared inconclusive by the Returning Officer, Professor Lawal Sa’adu of the Federal University Gusau. According to him, the margin of lead between the top two political parties was less than the number of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collected in polling units where results were cancelled.

INEC has therefore called for maximum cooperation from stakeholders to ensure the success of the August 21 supplementary election.
