The Kwara State Government has called on health sector stakeholders to support efforts to develop a practical digital healthcare implementation plan aimed at improving medical service delivery across the state.
The call was made during a three-day workshop in Ilorin focused on creating a state-specific roadmap for the National Digital Health Initiative. According to the Ministry of Health, the initiative is expected to strengthen coordination, accountability and efficiency within the healthcare system.
Speaking at the opening session, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Taoheed Abdullahi, who represented Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina El-Imam, said the roadmap would help translate national health policies into practical actions suited to the realities of Kwara State.
“The process is not merely a technical exercise, but a critical pathway to translate national health policies, priorities and commitments into practical actions tailored to the unique realities, opportunities and challenges of Kwara State,” he said.
El-Imam said digital transformation had become essential to achieving efficient, equitable and sustainable healthcare delivery, especially as pressure on the health sector continues to increase. She added that the implementation roadmap would provide a framework for coordinated execution of digital health programmes, improved resource mobilisation and measurable impact across the state.
Also speaking, the Focal Person of the National Digital Health Initiative, Dr. Kudirat Lambe, said the workshop would assess Kwara’s digital health infrastructure and readiness level while reviewing existing frameworks. She noted that the engagement was expected to produce a practical four-year implementation plan capable of improving healthcare coordination and service delivery in the state.
