The management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has suspended two students over allegations of cyberbullying the institution’s suspended Students’ Union Government (SUG) president, James Iyanuoluwa Adio.
The university said the suspension takes immediate effect as investigations into the allegations continue.
In a statement published on the institution’s official news portal, the Acting Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Tajudeen Opoola, said the students were accused of conspiring to circulate Adio’s private affairs online.
The affected students were identified as Alao Iyanuoluwa Odunayo and Olawale Abiodun Samuel.
According to the statement, the duo allegedly engaged in cyberbullying “by posting his private affairs online for Adio’s inability to meet their financial demands.”
The university management said it viewed the alleged conduct as capable of damaging the image and reputation of the institution.
“The university frowns at acts capable of bringing the institution into disrepute,” the statement said.
Although investigations are still ongoing, the management directed the students to proceed on suspension immediately, stressing its commitment to maintaining discipline on campus.
The latest development comes days after Adio himself was suspended by the university alongside a Deputy Director in the Students Affairs Division over allegations linked to the collection of unauthorised fees from students.
The SUG president was accused of indirect involvement in the alleged collection of ₦1,000 from first-year students for practical sessions, with the university claiming that about ₦700,000 was traced to his personal bank account.
Following his suspension, an explicit video allegedly involving Adio circulated widely on social media, attracting public attention and prompting intervention by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
The university has not indicated when the disciplinary investigations involving the two suspended students will be concluded.
