Former Miss South Africa contestant and Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 winner, Chidimma Adetshina, has said she was unfairly treated and targeted in South Africa as her legal battle over her potential deportation and detention continues.
Speaking to journalists after the Cape Town Regional Court postponed the case, Adetshina said she remained confident in the South African judicial system and would continue to pursue the matter through the appropriate legal channels.
The former beauty queen, who was born in South Africa, said she had applied through the proper legal process to have her citizenship and status determined.
“I believe that I have been treated unfairly and targeted and there has been an attempt to make me an example, but my message is not going to be one out of anger,” she said.
Adetshina urged South Africans not to allow xenophobia and misinformation to influence how people were treated, stressing the importance of the rule of law and the spirit of Ubuntu.
She said she had made herself available through all appropriate legal avenues and would continue to respect and abide by the judicial process.
The Cape Town Regional Court ruled that it could not make a decision confirming her detention pending the case before the Western Cape High Court.
The matter was subsequently postponed to February 2027.
