ADO-EKITI, Nigeria – Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has congratulated Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, on his re-election, describing the outcome as a clear endorsement of the governor’s leadership style, governance record, and commitment to the development of the state.
Bamidele, who served as Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Election Campaign Council in Ekiti State, said the governor’s renewed mandate would guarantee continuity in governance and accelerate ongoing development initiatives across the state.
In a statement issued on Sunday through the Directorate of Media and Public Affairs, the Senate Leader described the victory as “a signpost for a better, brighter and greater Ekiti,” while congratulating both Governor Oyebanji and the APC on the electoral success.
The final results of the governorship election were announced by the Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, at the collation centre in Ado-Ekiti. According to the results, Oyebanji secured 319,224 votes, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dr. Wole Oluyede, who polled 40,543 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Mr. Dare Bejide, garnered 12,872 votes.
Bamidele attributed the governor’s overwhelming victory to his inclusive style of governance, which he said has fostered peace, unity, and political stability in Ekiti State. He noted that Oyebanji successfully transformed the state’s political atmosphere from one characterized by rivalry and division into a culture of collaboration and shared development goals.
According to the Senate Leader, one of the governor’s greatest achievements has been his ability to unite political leaders and stakeholders across party lines around a common vision for the progress of Ekiti State. He particularly commended Oyebanji for maintaining cordial relationships with former governors and key political actors, describing the level of harmony among Ekiti leaders as rare in Nigeria’s political landscape.
“The election result reflects the confidence of the people in Governor Oyebanji’s leadership, commitment to good governance, and dedication to the welfare and prosperity of Ekiti residents,” Bamidele stated.
He further noted that Oyebanji has made history as the first governor in Ekiti State to secure back-to-back re-election since the return of democratic rule in 1999, describing the feat as evidence of public trust in his administration.
Bamidele expressed confidence that the governor’s second term would consolidate ongoing reforms, deepen developmental programmes, and strengthen Ekiti’s reputation as a model of good governance and political stability in Nigeria.
He also commended the people of Ekiti State for their peaceful conduct throughout the electoral process and praised the leadership of the APC at both national and state levels for providing the support and platform that contributed to the party’s resounding victory.
The Senate Leader reaffirmed his optimism that the renewed mandate would usher in greater progress and prosperity for the people of Ekiti State.
