According to the official results, Alia defeated his two challengers, Terwase Orbunde, who secured 3,247 votes, and Jeffery Kuranun, who garnered 2,923 votes.
Announcing the outcome, Prof Isa said the exercise was conducted across the state and that Alia had met all requirements to be declared the APC candidate.
Speaking shortly after the declaration, Governor Alia called for unity within the party and urged his fellow contestants and supporters to work together for the development of Benue State.
“We are all APC members and we’re all working for the progress of the people of Benue State. I invite them to continue to join forces with me so that we would move the state forward from where we are today,” he said.
The governor also expressed gratitude to party members and delegates who voted for him, describing their support as a vote of confidence in his administration.
“To all those who were out there to do this franchise on me, I remain very grateful to them,” Alia said.
He thanked residents of the state for their continued backing and pledged to sustain efforts aimed at delivering development and improving the welfare of citizens.
“It is your government and you are the government. It is my hope that your support will continue so that, as I have pledged, progress, development and human capacity growth will continue to come,” he added.
Alia’s victory positions him as the APC’s standard-bearer for the forthcoming governorship election as he seeks another term in office.
