The Jigawa State Police Command has launched an investigation into the sudden death of a 60-year-old man who reportedly suffered a medical emergency while staying at a hotel in Dutse with a 20-year-old woman.
Police spokesperson, SP Shi’isu Adam, said in a statement that officers responded after receiving a distress report from the hotel.
According to him, the man had checked into the hotel with the woman before requesting a meal. Shortly after it was served, he allegedly began gasping for air.
“The incident occurred at a hotel in Dutse, where a 60-year-old man who checked in with a 20-year-old woman suddenly developed a medical emergency after requesting a meal,” Adam said.
He added that officers from the Yalwawa Police Division swiftly arrived at the scene and rushed the victim to the General Hospital in Dutse.
“At the hospital, he was examined by medical personnel and unfortunately certified dead,” the police spokesperson said.
Detectives later secured the scene and carried out a preliminary investigation.
Adam said investigators recovered food items, beverages, a suspected sexual enhancement substance and other personal belongings, which have been taken for forensic examination as part of the ongoing probe.
“Some food items, beverages, a suspected sexual enhancement substance, and other personal effects were recovered for further examination,” he said.
The police said all exhibits were properly preserved to support the investigation.
Following medical certification and the completion of required procedures, the deceased’s body was released to his family for burial at their request.
The 20-year-old woman who was with the deceased is assisting investigators.
“She is providing useful information to assist in establishing the sequence of events leading to the unfortunate occurrence. The investigation remains ongoing,” Adam added.
The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State assured residents that the investigation would be conducted professionally and without bias.
“The investigation will be conducted thoroughly, professionally, and impartially,” the commissioner said through the police spokesperson.
The command also urged members of the public to avoid spreading unverified information or speculating about the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, promising to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
