Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the successful rescue of three kidnapped victims along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area. The operation, carried out by a Joint Security Team at approximately 7:20 a.m. on March 22, 2025, was part of ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities in the state.
According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, the victims had sustained injuries inflicted by their captors and were promptly taken to a hospital for medical attention. They are reported to be responding well to treatment and will be debriefed by the police in due course.
The swift intervention was triggered when security agencies were alerted about the abduction, which occurred in Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Oyi Local Government Area. Security checkpoints across the state were immediately put on high alert, leading to the eventual rescue.
Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives for their swift response and urged them to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators. He reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property while emphasizing that security forces would continue their crackdown to dismantle criminal networks in the state.
