Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has confirmed that he honoured an invitation from the Department of State Services (DSS) in connection with the September 1, 2025 attack on his convoy in Kebbi State.

In a statement shared via his personal social media handle on Monday, Malami said the DSS summons was part of ongoing investigations into threats against his life, a matter he had previously reported through a formal petition.

“I can confirm that I have been invited by the Department of State Services to support investigation over the attack on my person and convoy in Kebbi State on the 1st of September, 2025,” he stated.

Allegations Against Political Opponents in Kebbi

Malami suggested the attack may have been politically motivated, accusing “opposition high-profile political elements” in Kebbi of orchestrating the assault. He stopped short of naming individuals but hinted at rising political tensions in the state.

“I remain confident in the capacity of the DSS to conduct a thorough, impartial investigation,” he added.

Praise for DSS Professionalism

The former Justice Minister commended the DSS for their professional and respectful approach, saying he was treated with “dignity and respect” during the session.

“I must commend the DSS for the professional and transparent manner in which they have conducted their inquiry. I remain committed to cooperating fully with the Department to ensure the investigation is concluded successfully,” he said.

Background: Kebbi Governor Accuses Malami of Destabilization Plot

Tensions between Malami and the Kebbi State Government escalated earlier this month after Governor Nasir Idris accused him of promoting a “terrorism agenda” disguised as politics.

The governor had rejected Malami’s claims that the Kebbi State Government was importing mercenaries to destabilize the region, describing the allegations as “false, dangerous, and capable of undermining peace.”

Malami, in response, petitioned the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), alleging a plot to endanger his life and destabilize Kebbi politics ahead of 2027.
