Notably, the Minister was recently honoured with the Changemaker Award in New York during the 2024 International Women’s Day celebration — a testament to her impactful work on both national and global platforms.

“As advocates for women’s rights, we share a common mandate with you. We acknowledge the challenges women and children face in our society and remain committed to amplifying these issues through our platforms,” Hajia Aisha Ibrahim stated. She added that empowering women is not merely a social obligation but a national imperative for Nigeria’s progress.

During the visit, NAWOJ announced its forthcoming National Conference scheduled to take place in Borno State. Themed “Women Journalists, Peace, and Security in Nigeria,” the conference aims to spotlight the critical role of female journalists in promoting peace and security, especially in areas affected by insurgency, banditry, and kidnapping.

In recognition of her remarkable service, NAWOJ also revealed plans to honour Minister Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim with an Award of Excellence during the conference. The award celebrates her unwavering commitment to women’s empowerment and advocacy.

In her response, Minister Sulaiman-Ibrahim expressed gratitude for the honour and pledged her continued support for NAWOJ in amplifying women’s voices across the country. She emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity among women, advocating for a ‘She for She’ movement, where women uplift and protect one another to achieve common goals.

“I believe if women are given equal opportunities and the space to contribute meaningfully to national development, Nigeria will be a better place for all,” the Minister remarked.

She also assured her participation in the upcoming conference and personally receiving the award. Additionally, the Minister called on Nigerians to exercise patience and support the current administration, affirming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to building a more secure and prosperous Nigeria.

The courtesy visit was led by NAWOJ National Chairperson, Hajia Aisha Ibrahim, alongside national officers and members of the FCT executive council.
