A wave of outrage swept across Anambra State on Tuesday after a woman allegedly disguised as a nurse attempted to abduct newborn babies from a hospital in the state.
According to eyewitness accounts, the suspect gained access to the hospital premises while dressed in a nurse’s uniform, creating the impression that she was a member of the medical staff. Her actions reportedly raised suspicion among hospital workers and relatives of patients, who alerted security personnel.
The woman was apprehended before she could leave the facility with any child. Hospital authorities and security operatives quickly intervened, preventing what could have resulted in the disappearance of one or more newborns.
The incident sparked anger among residents and parents, many of whom expressed concern over the safety of patients and the ease with which unauthorized persons could gain access to sensitive areas of healthcare facilities.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the suspect’s identity, motives and whether she may be linked to previous cases of child trafficking or attempted abduction.
