The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects, including a former security guard, in connection with the murder of former Ogun State Television broadcaster, Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, disclosed the arrests on Thursday during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta. He said the breakthrough followed extensive intelligence gathering, technical tracking operations and forensic investigations by detectives.
Oyesiku and Adetayo were found dead at the retired broadcaster’s residence in Owode-Egba on June 21. Police said the broadcaster’s Lexus RX 330 vehicle was also missing from the premises, raising suspicions of robbery and murder.
According to Ojajuni, officers who responded to a distress report discovered Adetayo’s body inside the security house within the compound, while Oyesiku was found in a pool of blood in the living room of the main residence. Detectives immediately processed the crime scene and launched an intensive investigation.
The police commissioner revealed that the missing Lexus vehicle was recovered a day later through intelligence-led operations. He added that a handwritten note allegedly left at the scene became a crucial piece of evidence after forensic examination generated leads that helped investigators identify the suspects.
Police subsequently arrested the principal suspect, 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta. Further operations led to the arrest of Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36.
Ojajuni said Philip confessed to the killings and admitted recruiting the other two suspects. According to investigators, the former security guard allegedly planned the attack over grievances from his previous employment with the deceased.
“The suspect stated that the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku was intended to ‘teach her a lesson,’” the police commissioner said.
Police said the suspects overpowered Adetayo before using him to gain access to Oyesiku’s residence. Both victims were subsequently killed, while the suspects fled with the deceased’s vehicle.
Detectives later recovered several exhibits linked to the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank and a black pen. Ojajuni said investigations remain ongoing to strengthen the evidence and ensure diligent prosecution of all suspects involved.
He assured residents that the command remains committed to securing justice for the victims and bringing everyone connected with the crime to account under the law.
