Nigeria Envoy Presents Credentials to Dutch King

Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Mohammed Idris Haidara, has formally presented his Letters of Credence to King Willem-Alexander, marking the official commencement of his diplomatic duties in the European nation.


The credential presentation ceremony took place at the Noordeinde Palace on Wednesday, where Ambassador Haidara conveyed the goodwill message of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Dutch monarch.
Speaking during the event, Ambassador Haidara highlighted the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and the Netherlands, describing it as one founded on mutual respect, expanding trade relations and a shared commitment to multilateral cooperation. He noted that collaboration between both countries continues to grow in key sectors including agriculture, renewable energy, maritime security and the promotion of justice.
The envoy stated that his appointment by President Tinubu reflects Nigeria’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties, expanding economic opportunities and strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two nations.
The ceremony was marked by traditional royal honours, including a carriage procession to the palace, accompanied by the Royal Chamberlain and horsemen of the Royal Netherlands Mounted Police. A military band also performed Nigeria’s national anthem, while an honour guard was inspected by the ambassador before the formal presentation.
Following the presentation of credentials, Ambassador Haidara and King Willem-Alexander held a brief bilateral meeting, during which they discussed issues of mutual interest and prospects for further strengthening relations between Nigeria and the Netherlands.
