Jigawa Govt Approves N1.5 Billion Compensation for Residents Affected by Road Projects

The Jigawa State Government has approved over ₦1.5 billion for compensating individuals affected by township road construction projects across various towns in the state.

State Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sports, and Culture, Alhaji Sagir Musa Ahmed, disclosed this to journalists following the State Executive Council meeting at the Government House in Dutse.

He highlighted that road construction projects impact several towns, including Fagam, Kila-Jugwa-Sakuwa-Gwaram, Sankara-Ringim, Bulangu-Kafin Hausa, Gandun Sarki-Hadejia, Dansure-Roni, Aujara-Jahun, and Dutse Local Government Areas. This initiative falls under the Ministry of Land, Housing, Urban Development, and Regional Planning.

Additionally, the council has sanctioned over ₦8.2 billion as a 30% advance payment for the 2025 dry season rice farming program. This investment aims to boost food security and improve livelihoods by supporting 58,500 farmers in cultivating 50,000 hectares of rice across 1,000 clusters in key rice-producing areas. The funds, presented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, will be recovered post-harvest.

In another significant move, the State Executive Council approved a two-year extension of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Jigawa State Ministry of Health and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) France, an international humanitarian organization.

According to Ahmed, the extended partnership seeks to enhance maternal and neonatal healthcare by improving obstetric services at Jahun General Hospital and healthcare facilities in Aujara and Miga. The initiative aligns with the state’s ongoing efforts to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates.
