Former Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, has raised alarm that the African continent is currently grappling with more than 1,000 terrorist groups.
He issued the warning in Abuja while delivering his goodwill message at the Africa Chiefs of Defence Staff Summit, themed “Combating Contemporary Threats to Regional Peace and Security in Africa: The Role of Strategic Defence Collaboration.”
Gambari urged African militaries to strengthen cooperation at national, regional, and continental levels in order to effectively confront the escalating security threats.
He further stressed the urgent need to revive Africa’s defence industries and safeguard indigenous technologies, cautioning against overdependence on foreign powers to dictate security solutions.
