President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, to attend the official installation of Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The President’s convoy pulled into the historic Mapo Hall venue around 2:25 p.m. on Friday, where he was warmly received by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
Tinubu Leads Dignitaries to Historic Yoruba Coronation
President Tinubu is leading a high-powered delegation of dignitaries to the high-profile event. He was accompanied by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State and Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State.
The event marks a significant moment in Yoruba traditional leadership as former Oyo State Governor, Rashidi Ladoja, ascends the throne as the new Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Flight From Abuja to Ibadan
Earlier on Friday, President Tinubu departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at approximately 12:45 p.m., en route to Ibadan for the ceremony.
He joins an esteemed guest list of monarchs, politicians, and cultural leaders attending the colourful coronation at Mapo Hall, a venue steeped in Yoruba history.
A National and Cultural Milestone
President Tinubu’s presence at the coronation underscores the national significance of the Olubadan stool, known for its well-structured and respected succession system. The event also highlights the cultural importance of Ibadanland in Nigeria’s traditional and political landscape.
Ladoja succeeds Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan, who passed away on July 7, 2025.
