French authorities have arrested two suspects linked to the theft of crown jewels worth €88 million (£76 million; $102 million) from the Louvre Museum in Paris.

According to reports from French media, Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed that one of the suspects was apprehended at Charles de Gaulle Airport while attempting to board a flight.

Officials say both arrests took place on Saturday evening, though they did not clarify whether additional suspects are being held.

The similar heist occurred last Sunday, when four armed men used power tools to force their way into the world-famous museum in broad daylight.

The theft has sparked widespread outrage and raised questions about the museum’s security.

France’s Justice Minister later acknowledged that security measures had “failed,” calling the incident a terrible image for the country.
