The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) convened in Abuja for a crucial meeting at the party’s National Secretariat, with key leaders in attendance.
Security was heightened around the venue on Blantyre Street, as armed personnel, including soldiers from the Guards Brigade, restricted movement. Journalists, despite prior accreditation, were kept outside the premises.
Among the early arrivals were members of the National Working Committee (NWC), the Forum of State Chairmen, former Zamfara Governor Abdulaziz Yari, Minister of Budget and National Planning Atiku Bagudu, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu. Several governors and former state leaders were also present.
Notably absent were former President Muhammadu Buhari, ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi. President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas arrived at noon. The meeting was led by APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje.
This NEC meeting, the first under Tinubu’s administration, followed a national caucus meeting at the Presidential Villa. Meanwhile, some APC chieftains, including El-Rufai and former National Vice Chairman Salihu Lukman, have raised concerns about the party’s internal democracy.
