Plateau State Government Distributes Free ‘Mama Kits’ to Boost Safe Childbirth

In a bid to enhance maternal healthcare and reduce childbirth-related complications, the Plateau State Government has launched the distribution of free safe delivery kits, known as ‘Mama Kits,’ across Primary Health Care (PHC) centers in the state.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang led the official launch at Mista-Ali PHC Clinic in Bassa Local Government Area, urging pregnant women to register for antenatal care to benefit from the initiative. He emphasized that the project aligns with his administration’s commitment to ensuring safe deliveries under hygienic conditions.

“This initiative is part of my campaign promise to protect and care for women and children. We will continue working towards improving maternal healthcare, and I assure you that we will upgrade this facility to a Comprehensive Health Care Unit,” Governor Mutfwang stated.

During the event, the governor inspected the delivery kits and pledged to secure additional funding to expand the program.

Deputy Governor and Chairperson of the State Committee on Immunization and PHCs, Ngo Josephine Piyo, commended the governor’s dedication to women’s and children’s welfare. She expressed confidence that the initiative would positively impact the health and future of newborns.

Dr. Raymond Juryil, Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Primary Health Care Development Agency, highlighted the urgency of the intervention, revealing that maternal mortality rates remain high in the state. He disclosed that 48,000 safe delivery kits had been procured for distribution, with an additional 10,000 expected soon.

The Chairman of Bassa Local Government Council, Joshua Riti, assured the governor of continued support, pledging to sustain the initiative in all health facilities within his jurisdiction.

With this intervention, the Plateau State Government reinforces its commitment to reducing maternal mortality and improving healthcare access for expectant mothers.
