Abuja Hosts Nigeria-EU Senior Officials Meeting on Trade, Migration, Climate, Security

Nigeria and the European Union (EU) are set to hold a high-level Senior Officials Meeting, in Abuja. The engagement aims to strengthen bilateral ties and set the stage for the forthcoming Nigeria-EU Ministerial Meeting.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting will be co-chaired by Ambassador Janet Olisa, Director of Regions, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Mathieu Briens, Deputy Managing Director for Africa at the European External Action Service (EEAS).
The discussions will center on a broad range of thematic areas central to the Nigeria-EU partnership. Key agenda items include:
* Peace, security, and governance
* Multilateral and regional cooperation
* Humanitarian response strategies
* Trade and investment opportunities
* Human development in health, education, and social protection
* Science, innovation, and digital transformation
* Migration management
* Energy, climate change, and green economy transition
Both parties are expected to reaffirm their commitment to shared values, including support for multilateralism and a rules-based international order.
Nigeria and the EU have maintained a long-standing and strategic partnership anchored in mutual respect, common interests, and sustainable development objectives.
The outcomes of the Senior Officials Meeting will directly inform the agenda and framework for the upcoming Nigeria-EU Ministerial Dialogue, which aims to solidify new agreements and deepen existing cooperation.
