AWALCO Commiserates With Nigerian ECOWAS Parliamentarian Over Wife’s Passing

The Association of West African Legislative Correspondents (AWALCO), the official press corps of the ECOWAS Parliament, has paid a heartfelt condolence visit to Hon. Awaji Inombek Abiante, a Nigerian representative in the ECOWAS Parliament, following the tragic passing of his beloved wife.

The condolence visit took place at Hon. Abiante’s residence in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, during the ongoing 2025 Second Extraordinary Session of the ECOWAS Parliament. The delegation was led by AWALCO President, Mr. Innocent Odoh, and accompanied by the Head of the Communication Division of the ECOWAS Parliament, Mrs. Uche Duru-Nwaotule.

In his remarks, Mr. Odoh paid tribute to the late Mrs. Abiante, describing her as a woman of strength, compassion, and unwavering loyalty to her family. “Her steadfast dedication and support to Hon. Abiante over the years is truly admirable. We pray for comfort and strength for the family in this time of grief,” he said.

Mrs. Duru-Nwaotule also expressed deep sorrow over the loss, calling the death “devastating” and urging Hon. Abiante to stay strong in the face of this painful loss. “Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family,” she added.

Visibly moved by the show of support, Hon. Abiante expressed profound gratitude to AWALCO and the ECOWAS Parliament community. “Your visit is a great source of comfort as I navigate through this period of sorrow. I deeply appreciate your presence and kind words,” he said.
