The Northern Nigeria Youth Leaders Forum (NNYLF) has strongly condemned the gruesome killing of 16 Northern youths in Uromi, Edo State, on March 28, 2025. Describing the act as senseless and inhumane, the forum is demanding swift justice and urgent government intervention.
In a press statement signed by the NNYLF National President, Comrade Amb. Murtala Muhammad Gamji, and the National Deputy Secretary/Acting Spokesman, Comrade JM Abbah, the group expressed deep sorrow over the tragic event, labeling it a gross violation of human rights and a threat to national unity.
“This heinous crime must not be overlooked. We call on the authorities to immediately investigate, arrest, and prosecute those responsible. The protection of lives and property is the primary responsibility of any government, and we demand stringent measures to prevent such occurrences in the future,” the statement read.
The forum outlined the following key demands:
1. The killings must be condemned by all Nigerians.
2. Perpetrators should be swiftly arrested and prosecuted.
3. State governors must take full responsibility for security within their jurisdictions.
4. Northern youths will no longer tolerate the killing of innocent citizens in any part of the country.
5. Families of the deceased must be adequately compensated.
6. Northern leaders must prioritize youth empowerment through education and job creation.
7. A 15-member committee has been established to monitor the progress of the investigation at both federal and state levels.
8. Northern youths should not engage in retaliation and must reject being used for violent attacks.
9. The group places its trust in Nigeria’s security agencies under the leadership of the National Security Adviser.
10. The forum expresses confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proactive leadership to ensure justice prevails.
NNYLF further urged the Edo State Government to remain committed to ensuring justice is served, warning against any attempt to downplay the gravity of the incident.
“We strongly condemn this act and will continue to push for justice. The safety and security of every Nigerian must remain a priority,” the statement concluded.
