In a show of political force and grassroots coordination, the Labour Party held a well-attended general assembly at its LGA Secretariat in Olodi Apapa on Saturday, signaling strong momentum ahead of the July 12 Local Government Area (LGA) elections in Lagos State.
The event, hosted at 13 Odofin Street, attracted a large turnout of party faithful, community stakeholders, and six traditional rulers, underlining a groundswell of support for the party’s local agenda and candidates.
Traditional Institutions Align with Labour
In a significant nod to Labour’s growing acceptance, six traditional chiefs (Baales) were present at the gathering, lending symbolic and cultural weight to the party’s ambitions. Those in attendance included:
– Chief Akeem Oseni (Bale Amukoko)
– Chief Abdulateef Ojora (Bale Alaba)
– Chief Jide Ojora (Bale Alafia)
– Bale Taiwo Okere
– Bale Balogun Abukekere
– Bale Idris Ojora
Their presence was lauded by party members, with calls for continued partnership between traditional institutions and modern political structures in advancing community development.
OmoBarca Electrifies Crowd, Funds Election Agents
A major highlight was the address by Hon. Francis Barthlomew Omowale Chima, popularly known as OmoBarca, who energized the crowd with a passionate call for unity, resilience, and grassroots mobilization.
Declaring full support for the six councillorship candidates under the Labour Party banner, OmoBarca pledged to pay the agent fees for all six wards—a gesture that sparked thunderous applause.
He also charged party executives and volunteers to intensify voter outreach and expand party membership.
OmoBarca extended appreciation to the traditional rulers for their ongoing support of the Omobarca Movement and contributions to communal harmony. He prayed for their continued safety and long lives.
Symbolic Flag Presentation and Campaign Kickoff
In a symbolic moment, the six Labour Party councillorship candidates officially received their party flags from OmoBarca, marking the formal kickoff of campaign activities across the wards.
The assembly concluded with music, dancing, and refreshments, creating a festive environment that blended celebration with political purpose.
Each attendee received a ₦3,000 transportation stipend, further reinforcing the party’s commitment to grassroots empowerment.
