The Yobe State Government has issued a public advisory urging residents to exercise caution when engaging with unknown firms or individuals, citing growing concerns over public safety and the rising threat of cyber-enabled fraud.

The warning was issued by the Office of the Yobe State Focal Person on Cyber and Information Technology, Abdulmumini Mallam Kolo, following what the government described as multiple complaints, intelligence reports and ongoing legal matters involving a company and its principal officers.

According to the statement, the concerns raised include alleged misrepresentation of professional titles, unlawful labour recruitment practices, criminal records, pending court cases and potential conflicts of interest.

“The advisory became necessary in view of the increasing cases of cyber fraud, online job scams and digital deception, particularly those associated with employment opportunities and overseas job placements,” the statement said.

The government cautioned residents against making payments or sharing personal information with unverified individuals or organisations, stressing the need for due diligence.

Members of the public were advised to verify all claims, job offers and international recruitment opportunities with relevant government authorities and regulatory agencies before taking any further steps.

Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding citizens, the Yobe State Government said it would continue to take measures to protect residents from cybercrime, fraud and digital exploitation.

“We encourage members of the public to promptly report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies and appropriate regulatory bodies,” the statement added.
