Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has fixed October 27, 2025, for the arraignment of human rights activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, over a five-count charge related to alleged cybercrime.

The scheduled arraignment on Tuesday was stalled due to non-service of the charge sheet on the defendants.

Sowore, X Corp., Meta Named in Cybercrime Case

At the day’s proceedings, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) from the Federal Ministry of Justice informed the court of the government’s readiness to arraign Omoyele Sowore, X Corporation (formerly Twitter) and Meta Platforms Inc. (owners of Facebook) as first, second, and third defendants, respectively.

However, Sowore’s legal counsel, Marshal Abubakar, objected, stating that the charges had not been served on his client.

The counsel representing Meta also aligned with this submission, confirming that his client had only just been served in court.

The second defendant, X Corporation, was not represented at the hearing.

DSS Files Charges Over Alleged Offensive Post

The case stems from a post made by Sowore on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on August 25, which the prosecution alleges was “offensive in nature” and violates Section 24(2)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition and Prevention) Act, 2024.

According to the charge, the post was made within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court and constitutes a cybercrime offense.

Following the stalled arraignment, Justice Umar adjourned the matter until October 27, 2025, to allow proper service of charges on all defendants.
