APGA presidential candidate Peter Umeadi resigns from party, quits politics

The 2023 Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Justice Professor Peter Umeadi, has announced his resignation from the party and his withdrawal from partisan politics in Nigeria.

In a letter addressed to Mr. Onyekwelu Jideobi, the Chairman of APGA Ward 1, Nri, in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, Justice Umeadi expressed gratitude to the party for giving him the opportunity to contest the 2023 presidential election.

Justice Umeadi, a distinguished jurist and academic, made history as the first judge and professor of law, to emerge as a presidential candidate of a major Nigerian political party.

He stated that his campaign was anchored on the principles of the rule of law, separation of powers, and due process, with a commitment to social progress and equal opportunity for all Nigerians.

Born on July 4, 1955, Umeadi joined APGA on March 20, 2019, after a notable career in the judiciary. He served as the Chief Judge of Anambra State from 2011 to 2019 and is a Life Bencher. He currently holds the position of Visiting Professor of Law at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

His resignation marks the end of a significant chapter in his public service and political engagement.
