Activist Aisha Yesufu has fired back at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, following remarks he made about her unsuccessful bid to secure the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial ticket for the FCT.

Yesufu had declared her intention to contest the seat on May 6 after joining the NDC from the African Democratic Congress (ADC). However, she failed to secure the party’s nomination.

During her campaign, the activist dismissed Wike’s political influence, arguing that as an appointee of the government, he could not determine the outcome of an election.

Speaking at a luncheon in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike appeared to mock Yesufu’s defeat, saying that despite her public commentary, she could not win what he described as an “ordinary” NDC primary election.

“There’s one woman who said Wike is an appointee of government and that she has no business with appointees. You speak grammar, speak grammar. Ordinary primary of NDC, not APC or PDP, just ordinary NDC, what happened? She didn’t make it.

“It’s easy for people to talk. When they enter those media houses, they begin to churn out data from nowhere. Now, the time for data has come. What happened? ‘Fa fa fa foul.’ It didn’t work. If e dey, e dey. If e no dey, e no dey,” Wike said.

Responding through a post on her X account, Yesufu challenged the minister to mention her name directly rather than making indirect references to her.

She also dismissed his comments, describing him as a “boi boi” serving another individual and insisting that she remained undeterred by his remarks.

The exchange is the latest in a series of verbal confrontations between the activist and the former Rivers State governor, both of whom have frequently clashed over political issues and governance.
