Afrobeats superstar Davido says he is preparing to make his acting debut as he expands his career beyond music, revealing that he is already serving as an executive producer on two films and working on a major documentary.
The award-winning singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, disclosed his plans during an interview with Vibe Q on Thursday, describing filmmaking as the next step in his creative journey.
Davido said he believes artists must continue to reinvent themselves to remain relevant, comparing the evolution of music to the constant innovation seen in the technology industry.
“Music evolves. Just like technology, Apple every year, they’re bringing out a new iPhone. That’s the same way I look at music. There’s always a new sound, there’s always a new creative idea, there’s always a new way to tell your story.”
The singer revealed that he is already making inroads into the film industry, serving as executive producer on two movie projects alongside music video director Dammy Twitch, while also working on what he described as a “very, very big” documentary.
“I want to get into movies. I want to start acting soon. I have invested in two movie already as an executive producer. I also have a documentary coming. It is very, very big. And yeah, I do want to act at some point in the future.”
Although music remains his primary focus, Davido said he is excited about exploring storytelling through film and sees acting as a natural extension of his career.
The Grammy-nominated artiste has built a global reputation through chart-topping Afrobeats hits and international collaborations. In recent years, he has also expanded his interests beyond music, investing in entertainment, fashion and hospitality while expressing support for the growth of Nigeria’s creative industry.
