Suspected bandits have abducted the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Samaila Bagudu, from his residence in Bagudu Local Government Area of the state on Friday night.
According to residents, the attack occurred shortly after the Deputy Speaker returned home from the mosque, where he had just concluded the Isha’i (night) prayer around 8:00 p.m.
Eyewitnesses said the armed men arrived in a vehicle, ordered the Deputy Speaker to enter, and fired several gunshots into the air to disperse the crowd.
In the chaos, a young boy who helped the lawmaker put on his shoes was shot in the leg and later taken to the hospital for treatment.
The residents confirmed that, aside from the injured boy, no lives were lost during the abduction.
Efforts to reach the Kebbi State Police Command Public Relations Officer as of press time were unsuccessful.
