Grammy-winning Nigerian artist, Burna Boy has reaffirmed his deep connection to Nigeria while reflecting on the meaning of freedom and his experiences living abroad.

In a recent interview, the “Last Last” hitmaker was asked how life in America was compared to living in Nigeria. Burna Boy responded that his idea of true freedom exists only in his home country.

“I like freedom, and the definition of freedom is in my country,” he said.

The Afro-fusion superstar, whose real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, added that although he enjoys aspects of life in the United States, he doesn’t feel completely free there.

“I can never be fully free here,” he said, jokingly adding, “’Cause people go to jail — like all the best guys I know go to jail, and that’s not what I’m trying to do.”

Known for his bold views and cultural pride, Burna Boy has consistently used his global platform to celebrate African identity, advocate for self-expression, and address social issues through his music.

His sound, which fuses Afrobeats, reggae, and dancehall, has earned him international acclaim and solidified his place among the leading voices shaping modern African music.
