Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has been honoured with the Humanitarian Award for Excellence in Service by the Women of Glory Foundation in recognition of her outstanding contributions to society and commitment to humanitarian causes.
The award was presented during the foundation’s 10th anniversary celebration held in Abuja on Saturday, June 6, 2026. At the event, Grace Ike was also recognized as the “Most Active Journalistic Mobilizer” for her role in promoting unity, professionalism, and national development within the media community.
The Women of Glory Foundation, a humanitarian organization dedicated to supporting widows, elderly women, single mothers, and other vulnerable groups, used the occasion to celebrate a decade of service and impact across Nigeria. The foundation operates in all 36 states of the federation, focusing on women empowerment, mentorship, healthcare support, skills acquisition, and advocacy against violence and social injustice.
Speaking at the event, the founder of the foundation, Dr. Nneka Evelyn Nzewi, recounted the personal experiences that inspired the establishment of the organization. She revealed that losing her father at a young age and witnessing her mother struggle to raise five children under difficult circumstances motivated her lifelong commitment to supporting disadvantaged women.
“My mother worked tirelessly to keep hope alive despite immense challenges. What she needed was support, dignity, opportunity, and someone who believed in her potential,” she said.
Dr. Nzewi explained that the foundation was born out of a promise she made to God to assist women facing similar hardships if she succeeded in life.
The ceremony attracted women from diverse backgrounds who have distinguished themselves in various fields and continue to make meaningful contributions to society.
While presenting the award, the organizers commended Grace Ike’s leadership and dedication to mobilizing journalists toward promoting national interest and developmental journalism.
The NUJ FCT Chairman was represented at the event by the council’s Assistant Secretary, Sharon Emephia, who praised the Women of Glory Foundation for sustaining its humanitarian interventions over the past decade.
“Ten years of sustained impact is no small achievement. It reflects resilience, vision, and a deep commitment to service. In a time when many initiatives struggle for continuity, your decade-long journey stands as a testament to purpose-driven leadership,” Emephia said.
In her acceptance message, Grace Ike expressed appreciation to the organizers for the honour, describing it as a recognition of the collective efforts of members of the NUJ FCT Council.
“I sincerely appreciate the organizers for this recognition. I receive this honour with gratitude and humility, and I see it not just as a personal award but as a reflection of the collective efforts of the Nigeria Union of Journalists FCT Council and the values we uphold in promoting truth, development, and societal progress,” she stated.
The Women of Glory Foundation also thanked supporters, partners, and volunteers who have contributed to its humanitarian mission over the past ten years, reaffirming its commitment to transforming lives and advancing the welfare of women and vulnerable groups across the country.)
