Seven students of the Ebonyi State College of Health Science and Technology, Ngbo, in Ohaukwu Local Government Area, have sustained injuries following a robbery attack by suspected gunmen at the institution’s hostel.
Sources say the attackers stormed the hostel at about 1 a.m. on Tuesday, robbing students of their valuables before escaping. The incident has raised concerns over security at the school, as the hostels reportedly lack perimeter fencing and security posts.
The spokesperson of the Ebonyi State Police Command, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the attack, stating that police operatives were immediately deployed after receiving a distress report. He explained that the suspects had fled into a nearby bush before officers arrived, adding that efforts were underway to track and apprehend those responsible and recover the stolen items.
The injured students are currently receiving treatment at a hospital, while the management of the institution is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
In a related development, the Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with the killing of the traditional ruler of Ishinkwo Community in Onicha Local Government Area, HRH Eze Josephat Ikegwu.
According to SP Ukandu, the arrests followed an intelligence-led investigation that also led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle loaded with eight rounds of live ammunition. He said the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State, CP Hope Okafor, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring that all those involved in criminal activities are brought to justice.
