A family dispute has erupted within the household of late Nollywood legend John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, after one of his sons publicly accused the actor’s widow, Stella Okafor, of selling family properties and sidelining other children from their inheritance.
The controversy gained public attention after Stella Okafor reportedly appealed for financial assistance, claiming she was facing severe financial difficulties following the actor’s death.
Reacting to the appeal, one of Mr Ibu’s sons alleged that his stepmother had disposed of several assets belonging to the late comic actor, including a Lagos property said to be worth about N60 million. He claimed the sale was carried out without the knowledge or consent of other family members.
According to the son, the proceeds from the alleged property sale have not been accounted for, raising concerns among some of Mr Ibu’s children over the management of the late actor’s estate. He further accused Stella of excluding other beneficiaries from decisions relating to the inheritance.
The allegations have sparked debate on social media, with fans of the late actor expressing concern over the growing rift within the family. Many have called for transparency and an amicable resolution to prevent further public disputes.
Stella Okafor has yet to publicly respond to the specific allegations regarding the sale of the property and claims of inheritance exclusion.
Mr Ibu, one of Nigeria’s most celebrated comic actors, died in March 2024 after battling health complications. Since his passing, issues surrounding the administration of his estate have occasionally generated public interest.
Observers say the dispute underscores the challenges that often arise in the management of family estates, especially when there is no clear and widely accepted framework for asset distribution.
