Oru Media and Associates and Rein Karate Academy have begun discussions on a strategic partnership aimed at unlocking sponsorship opportunities, attracting investment and strengthening the commercial viability of martial arts in Nigeria.
The maiden engagement focused on developing a sustainable sports business model through media visibility, branding and strategic partnerships, as both organisations seek to position karate and other martial arts disciplines for long-term growth.
Speaking at the meeting, the Chief Executive Officer of Oru Media and Associates, Mr Oru Leonard Oru, said sustainable success in sports requires deliberate planning, strong institutional structures and clear brand positioning.
He advised Rein Karate Academy to consolidate its achievements in karate before expanding into other combat sports, arguing that successful sports brands are built on expertise and a clearly defined identity.
“Sports is becoming a business ecosystem where visibility, structure, partnerships and athlete protection matter as much as talent,” Mr Oru said.
He also encouraged the academy to engage recognised Mixed Martial Arts governing bodies and training institutions to strengthen technical capacity and create professional development pathways for athletes and coaches.
Mr Oru stressed the importance of athlete welfare, recommending that academy members be enrolled in basic health insurance schemes.
“Safeguarding athletes’ wellbeing not only improves performance and retention but also makes organisations more attractive to sponsors, development partners and investors,” he added.
A Director of Black Belt College, Shinandai Ehisuoria Noah Akhimien, said grassroots sports organisations often struggle to access funding despite possessing talent and ambition.
“Many grassroots sports institutions have the potential to grow, but they lack the visibility, networks and strategic communication needed to attract sponsors and decision-makers,” he said.
Mr Akhimien noted that partnerships with media and marketing professionals could help emerging sports organisations connect with investors, policymakers and industry stakeholders.
He expressed confidence that Oru Media and Associates could help Rein Karate Academy secure sponsorship opportunities and build a stronger commercial presence within the sports industry.
Both organisations ended the meeting expressing optimism that closer collaboration between sports institutions and media marketing firms would create new opportunities for athlete development, sponsorship acquisition and sustainable growth in Nigeria’s evolving sports economy.
