Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) and convener of the Take It Back Movement, Omoyele Sowore, has pledged to provide free education for all Nigerians and abolish public examination fees if elected in the 2027 general elections.

Sowore made the promise on Monday in a post on his official X account, amid public debate over the proposed increase in fees for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO).

The controversy followed a circular issued last week by the Federal Ministry of Education proposing an increase in WAEC and NECO examination fees from ₦27,500 to ₦50,000. The proposal drew widespread criticism, prompting the Federal Government to suspend the planned increment.

Reacting to the development, Sowore said his administration would eliminate fees for all public examinations and ensure free education at every level.

He wrote: “No government under a #Sowore2027 administration will ever ask your child to pay WAEC, NECO, or any other public examination fee. Education will be free because knowledge is a right, not a privilege.

“Our revolutionary education policy guarantees free, high-quality education from early childhood through university, backed by modern classrooms, virtual learning, well-paid teachers, student grants, and equal opportunities for every Nigerian child.

“This is not a promise of politics. It is a revolutionary commitment to build a nation where no child’s future is determined by poverty.”

The human rights activist maintained that education is a fundamental right and said no Nigerian child should be denied access to quality learning because of financial constraints.

The Federal Government is yet to announce a new policy on WAEC and NECO examination fees following the suspension of the proposed increase. ite this correctly for a newspaper, and suggest 3 captions that are SEO compliant
