The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory Command, has deployed 3,000 personnel across Abuja ahead of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary celebrations tomorrow.
The deployment is aimed at strengthening security, maintaining law and order, and protecting lives and property before, during and after the celebrations.
In a statement signed by the FCT Command’s spokesperson, DSC Monica Ojobi, the NSCDC said the deployment was ordered by the FCT Commandant, Dr Olusola Odumosu.
Personnel from specialised units, including the Arms Squad, Female Strike Force, Crack Squad, Agro Rangers, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Explosives (CBRNE) Unit and Counter-Terrorism Unit, are involved in the operation.
The command said security personnel would be deployed to strategic and vulnerable locations across the capital, including shopping malls, markets, motor parks, amusement and recreational centres, as well as Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.
The NSCDC also said its undercover operatives had been activated to conduct covert surveillance and gather intelligence, particularly around locations suspected to be hideouts for criminals.
Uncompleted buildings and identified black spots across the Federal Capital Territory are also being monitored to prevent criminal activities and security breaches.
Odumosu directed Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to maintain a strong operational presence across their respective Area Councils and ensure personnel remain vigilant throughout the celebrations.
The commandant warned personnel against lapses in security, saying: “As usual, I will not tolerate any form of security breach. All hands must be on deck. Ensure your personnel comply wholesomely.”
